Does weight lifting reduce or stunt height and stop growth?

Hello Doctor does weight lifting reduce or stunt height and stop growth? (Mr Karun from Chennai)

Weight training does not have any relevance to the reduction in the height, it is a misconception & Myth. The growth of the individual is decided by the growth hormone and the blueprint given by the parents which is already in place. The requirement to do exercise and doing an optimal amount of weight training in fact would assist children to grow to their optimal height. If weight training is going to cost stunting of growth school children carrying their school bags should have had a reduction or a stunting of their growth.
